Five Ways for Urban Homesteaders to Work Together

I am so honored to have my dear friend Erin, of the blog Blue Yurt Farms - http://blueyurtfarms.com/ and her new project Homesteader Hub, here to share today.

Erin is an amazing person with a huge heart and a lot of information to share.  She’s great at building community and getting the people around her excited about change.  She’s sharing about her huge, awesome, new project today on Five Little Homesteaders.  I can’t wait to be a part of it and I know you’ll be excited once you read about it too.

Most people associate homesteading with acreage, rural areas and plenty of space. And let’s not forget the dairy cow! But nowadays, there are homesteaders all over, from rural Texans to urban Manhattanites. Urban homesteaders have to be a bit more aware of rules than their rural counterparts, but other than that, there are so many possibilities!

I’m back and I’ve missed you!

Baby L

Have you missed me?  (Did you even notice that I was gone for so long?)

I’ve missed all of you and I’ve missed this little hobby of mine.

Things have been busy on our little homestead and I’ve been really, REALLY, tired.

If the picture above doesn’t give it away, we’re eagerly anticipating our fourth child.  (Yes, I realize that this might require a renaming of the blog. :) )

Goddess Garden Sunscreen Review: Five Little Homesteaders

As you probably already know, I live in Phoenix, Arizona. We get about 296 sunny days a year.  That’s a lot of sun.  You probably also know that we like to do a lot of outdoor activities here on our little homestead – gardening, constructing, chicken chasing, kid wrangling, etc.

Gardening, in specific, keeps me outside most of the weekend, especially this time of year.  So, you’ll understand that protecting my skin from the sun when out in the garden is an essential part of my routine.  Using a safe, natural, organic sunscreen, like Goddess Garden Organics - http://bit.ly/ggemailsignup , is one of the top ways that my family and I protect ourselves.

Pizza Night Just Got Easier :: Five Little Homesteaders

As my kids get busier and my little urban homestead gets bigger (did I mention that we just added 4 more chickens to our flock!?), I find myself struggling to get a home cooked meal on the table every night.

As a follower of this blog, you know that I promote “from scratch” cooking and making everything myself as much as possible.  However, sometimes I just can’t swing a 100% from scratch meal.  Life gets busy and time gets short.  Recently I was lucky enough to test out the new Recipe Starters from Progresso - http://r1.fmpub.net/?k1=cmx-metric&k2=6893|20&k3=post&k4=&r=http%3A%2F%2Fprogresso.com%2FProducts%2FRecipe-Starters and it has given me a new option when I need to whip up a quick meal at home.

My Healthy Home

It probably comes as no surprise to you that we get dirty on our little urban homestead.  We have plenty of things that can get us messy on any given day – chickens, gardens, mud and dirt.  And with three little ones around, cleaning up is a constant part of our daily rhythm.  As the title of this post suggests, I’m always trying to transform my house from my dirty home to my healthy home - http://www.walgreens.com/ology  (aka my clean home).

As you know, I’m a huge proponent of safe, sustainable products that contain natural ingredients.  I also promote making DIY natural cleaning products at home.  But sometimes it’s not possible to use homemade stuff or maybe you don’t want to make it or maybe you’ve run out.  In these cases, I’m so glad that there are great, natural products out there that I can buy and feel comfortable using in my home and on my family.
